For us orchardists it is paramount that our valuable fruit be handled with care so it can be delivered to the consumer in tip-top condition.
Harvesting requires deft hands to twist the apple in just the right way so the stem isn’t torn off.
Our organic apples have a tender skin and have to be handled gently to avoid bruises. These later turn brown on the surface or can be hidden just under the skin.
This natural change in colour also occurs when you peel an apple and then leave it for a while. The flesh loses its whiteness, but the rich flavour and nutritional value of the apple are unaffected. The taste of the apple is only slightly altered.
